Once an alumni, always connected

We usually tell you a lot about the study years at FH Burgenland. But in this blog post, we would like to take you with us into the time after graduation.

From friendships among alumni that have been cultivated over the years to our alumni association, which networks you across departments: our common journey does not end with graduation.

This cohesion is also thanks to our alumni network alumni FH Burgenland . We are therefore taking the 10th anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate our past years and successes. PS: If you want to toast this special birthday with us, you can get inspired at Nicole Trimmel's anniversary event. On 7 November, we will be hosting a motivational keynote speech by the reigning world and European kickboxing champion.

It is always a pleasure to meet our graduates at networking events, to experience the intensive exchange and to see how positively they think back on their time with us. Some graduates are so convinced by FH Burgenland that they even complete two or more degree programmes. We are all the more pleased about this because they are ambassadors for the university.

Barbara Kramer-Meltsch, Managing Director of the alumni association

Long-standing friendships

My former fellow students and I all have busy schedules, jobs and everyday life to cope with and also live relatively scattered lives: but somehow we still manage to get together. We meet up every few months. Every reunion is as familiar as if we were still at university together three years later. And in my opinion, that's another plus point of alumni friendships: How many acquaintances do you have in your life who can relate to your everyday working life as well as people from the same industry?  Being able to exchange ideas here is very valuable when you consider how much time we put into our jobs every day.

But it's not just us: many graduates stay in touch beyond their studies. For example, these gentlemen, pictured below, from the Department of Energy & Environment. They have been meeting up once a year for a regulars' get-together for almost 20 years. Some time ago, they met again for the first time at the place where it all began: the Pinkafeld campus for the alumni reunion. Everyone found their favourite place in the lecture hall and current students were also able to chat to the UAS alumni in the laboratory.

Another thing that always makes us happy is when alumni, perhaps even from different years, go travelling. As in this case: on a wine excursion in England, on holiday in Iceland or as a final trip to the sea. PS: Our alumni association will be happy to support you if you would also like to organise a class reunion on campus.

Networking across all departments

Of course, you can network privately at any time. But if you want to go one step further, you are also in good hands in our alumni association of FH Burgenland: as a university, we have wanted to stay connected with you for 10 years now. This includes after-work events in Vienna, our alumni TechTalk at the Pinkafeld campus, joint excursions in Austria and alumni meet alumni company visits to our graduates. After all, we want to know where the journey has led after the many hours in the lecture theatre and where the valuable know-how is being used today.

Membership is even free for the first year after graduation, after which a one-off annual fee is payable (as of 2024: € 12.00). The benefits include a number of exclusive offers, such as our photo shoots on campus for the perfect application portrait, champagne receptions at alumni meetings, sports activities organised by the FH Burgenland Sport & Gesundheit association and much more.

Former students as teachers & experts

But it is not only in the association that we hold on to our talented graduates: after a few years of professional experience, you will often see them back at our university as lecturers, where they pass on their expertise and tips to the next generation.
